Ernesto Carrión

Ernesto Carrión was born in Guayaquil in 1977. He is a poet, author, and screenwriter who has written El libro de la desobediencia and Carni vale, winner of the 2002 César Dávila Andrade National Literature Prize. Over the course of more than a decade he developed an ambitious lyrical project titled Ø, made up of thirteen books grouped together in three volumes: La muerte de Caín, Los duelos de una cabeza sin mundo, and 18 Scorpii. Among his work, the novels Cementerio en la luna, Un hombre futuro, Tríptico de una ciudad, Ciudad Pretexto, Cursos de francés, and El día en que me faltes (winner of the 2017 Lipp Novel Prize, the Hispanic version of the Prix Cazes in Paris) stand out. That same year, he won the Casa de las Américas Prize for Incendiamos las yeguas en la madrugada. His work has received the Premio Latinoamericano Ciudad de Medellín, the Jorge Carrera Andrade Prize, and the 2025 Gabriela Mistral Prize. His latest novel Catálogo de aves muertas was the recipient of the 2024 Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires residency, awarded by a jury made up of J.M. Coetzee, Margo Glantz, and Soledad Constantini.
